POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC

Job Summary: This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Major Duties:

  • You will perform maintenance, repair and minor overhaul of diesel engines and their auxiliary parts.
  • You will replace worn parts such as fuel-injection parts, water cooling tower system parts, valves and other associated elements.
  • You will check tolerances and clearances of parts, and make necessary adjustments, as needed and adjust nozzles, fuel injectors, and pumps.
  • You will work on· two-cycle, double-acting and other types of diesel engines, repair starting engines, auxiliary air compressors, generators, alternators, gears and engine accessories.
  • You will check mechanical parts of emergency power engines such as pivots, hearings gears, shafts, and pointer assemblies for damage and unusual wear.
  • You will visually conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspection(s) of all power-generating units and associated equipment for any fumes, leaks and other abnormalities such as excessive oil and/or water in the area.
  • You will work rotating watches in a Control Room with the centralized Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system in designated assigned buildings and areas.
  • You will direct appropriate switching procedures to meet various normal or emergency situations and dispatch personnel to trouble areas to arrest emergency situations related to electric power distribution.
  • You will record all pertinent data accurately and logically relating to power generation, produce written and verbal reports to the supervisor regarding discrepancies encountered during his/her watch.

Qualifications: Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO INSPECT, ABILITY TO PROVIDE PRODUCTION SUPPORT SERVICES: Experience and possess comprehensive knowledge of diesel engine operations and other associated machinery. Experience and must be able to work and conduct maintenance and repair to diesel engines, utilizing machinery repair manuals and shop mathematics to make calculations, as necessary. Experience and able to follow verbal and written instructions, directions and be able to prepare written reports relative to technical aspects of power plant operations.
