The Role
We are seeking a full-time DERMS (Distributed Energy Resource Management System) Power System Engineer to support the design, modeling, integration, and operation of distributed energy resources (DERs), including solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), EV charging, and other inverter-based resources. The ideal candidate will have strong power system fundamentals, hands-on modeling experience, and knowledge of interconnection standards and utility requirements.
In this role, the DERMS Power Systems Engineer will be working from AspenTech’s Medina, MN office, the successful applicant will contribute to project delivery and implementation of AspenTech Digital grid Management DERMS applications. This role provide more exposure around impacts of DERs on the grid, Optimization, VPPs, aggregations, smart inverter functionalities and more.
Your Impact
- Collaborate with customers and engineering teams to understand requirements and project plans for AspenTech DGM (Digital grid Management) applications.
- Design, integrate, test, and commission advanced control systems for electric utilities.
- Install and configure DERMS and DER applications.
- Communicate detailed requirements to internal departments as needed.
- Work directly with customers and remote engineering team members to understand requirements and communicate project plans.
- Perform customer training and consult on power system modeling to ensure the effective use and maintenance of a customer’s power system applications.
- Assist in creating project and product documentation as needed.
- Perform unit testing and tuning to ensure power system applications will meet customer and industry requirements.
- Support live customer systems using knowledge of power systems and DGM application functionality with clear, logical thought processes.
- Stay up to date with the latest industry standards and trends.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical field. Master’s degree with an emphasis in Power Systems preferred.
- 3+ years of power systems, project engineering, or related technical project implementation experience required.
- Ability and flexibility to travel up to 25% to domestic and international customer sites.
- Technical background with the ability to apply knowledge spanning renewable and integration of renewable into the electric grid solutions required.
- Understanding of DERs and integration DERs back to grid, including operation, control, and optimization.
- Experience with DER modelling.
- Understanding DER standards and protocols example: IEEE1547, IEEE2030.5 etc.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills; analytical and problem-solving skills; commitment to providing superior customer service; and ability to multi-task on several projects in a fast-paced environment are required.
The salary range for this role is $77,900.00 - $97,400.00. This range represents what we in good faith believe is the range possible for base compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on several factors. This range may be modified in the future. This role is also eligible for bonus or variable incentive pay.
