Job Summary: About the Position: This position is located at Little Goose Dam, Starbuck, WA. The Dam is operated by USACE and is situated on the Snake River, 65-river miles downstream from Clarkston, WA and 70-river miles upstream from the Tri-Cities, WA. Work duties will be performed inside and outside the hydroelectric (powerhouse) facility. This is a fast paced and multifaceted working environment. Little Goose Dam is near Starbuck, WA and close to Dayton, WA.

Major Duties:

  • Serves as Crew Supervisor in charge of the Electrical Maintenance Unit with responsibility for exercising control over the work operations involving several electricians and other workers engaged in repair and disassembly.
  • Plans weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of functions for subordinates.
  • Explains work requirements, methods, techniques and procedures as needed; defines the standards of quality and quantity to be met.
  • Instructs subordinates on difficult work operations; reviews work in progress or on completion; and changes work plans, work assignments and methods as necessary to reduce or control costs and accomplish the work in the unit effectively as possible.
  • Ensures that sufficient training is given to Crew members.

I have the ability to lead or supervise common tasks as a journeyman level power plant electrician. I can transmit instructions into working assignments or tasks for a crew of journey level Power Plant Electricians. I am able to set the pace for work accomplishments and can explain and instruct others of the same or lower grades. I am able to keep work progressing to meet the schedule. I work under normal supervision of a work leader who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability To Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Ability To Use Electrical Drawings Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Theory and Instruments (Electrical Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Trouble shooting (electrical) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort requires climbing stairs and ladders; prolonged standing and walking; and may occasionally assist journey level workers by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and twisting objects frequently weighing up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds. A high degree of concentrated mental and visual attention is necessary to determine cause of trouble and to plan and carry out corrective action; to interpret complex drawings; and to coordinate a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods. Ability to distinguish colors is essential. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in the project powerhouse, other structures, and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, extremes of heat or cold, dirt, oils, greases, dust, energized equipment, moving machinery, odors and fumes. Works around and over water, in damp drafty areas, and at various heights. May work with a variety of toxic or caustic materials. Required to work in concrete structures. There is a possibility of cuts, burns, falls, and electrical shock. Must wear all appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.
