Job Summary

The Power Cash / Term Trader plays a critical role in optimizing the value of the power portfolio through disciplined execution across cash and term markets while managing market, operational, and regulatory risk. The role supports commercial objectives by translating market signals, asset positions, and portfolio strategies into effective trading outcomes that enhance profitability and reliability.
This position works in close partnership with scheduling, market analytics, risk management, origination, and operations to ensure coordinated execution, accurate positioning, and adherence to internal controls and external market requirements. The role requires timely decision‑making, strong market awareness, and effective communication across multiple functions.

Position Overview

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Execute real‑time and day‑ahead power transactions across applicable ISO/RTO markets to optimize physical and financial positions in alignment with portfolio objectives.
  • Manage term power positions, including monthly, quarterly, and annual products, to support asset strategies, hedging programs, and longer‑term commercial goals.
  • Analyze market fundamentals such as load, generation, outages, congestion, weather, and transmission constraints to inform trading decisions and position management.
  • Adjust trading strategies in response to evolving market conditions, portfolio exposures, and risk parameters to protect value and enhance performance.
  • Coordinate with power schedulers to ensure timely, accurate submission of bids, offers, and schedules that reflect executed trades and asset positions.
  • Partner with market analytics and risk teams to evaluate pricing, volatility, scenario outcomes, and portfolio sensitivities.
  • Execute transactions within established risk limits, credit thresholds, and regulatory requirements, escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate trade capture, documentation, and confirmations within approved trading and risk management systems.
  • Contribute to portfolio P&L through disciplined execution, continuous strategy refinement, and post‑trade performance review.
  • Share market insights, drivers of performance, and emerging risks with internal stakeholders to support informed decision‑making.

Basic requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 7 or more years of experience trading or supporting power markets, including cash and/or term products.
  • Knowledge of ISO/RTO market structures, pricing mechanisms, and settlement processes.
  • Experience using trading, scheduling, or risk management systems within power markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate within defined risk limits and control frameworks.

Preferred requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with trading, scheduling, analytics, and risk teams.
  • Experience trading power in PJM and/or other North American ISO/RTO markets.
  • Exposure to congestion management, nodal pricing, and transmission constraints.
  • Experience supporting or managing asset‑backed power portfolios or structured power products.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and exposure to market analytics or visualization tools.
  • Prior demonstrated contribution to P&L in a power trading or commercial support role.
  • Invites dialogue to gain a shared understanding and influences with confidence to drive performance and achieve business results.
  • Analyzes stakeholder needs, global, political, and market trends to understand how they shape the future and impact our business results.
  • Builds strong relationships based on trust and seeks opportunities to collaborate across the matrix/organizational boundaries to achieve business goals.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily performed in an office or trading floor environment.
  • Role may require prolonged periods of sitting, screen use, and focused concentration.
  • Work schedule may align with market hours and require responsiveness to time‑sensitive market events.
  • Periodic interaction with multiple internal teams in a fast‑paced, dynamic setting.
