Job Position:

The Emerging Infectious Disease Ecology Laboratory (TEIDEL) seeks an experienced and motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the Department of Plant Pathology at The Ohio State University. The lab uses multiple model systems and aims to uncover properties that allow complex biological processes to occur reproducibly. The postdoc will perform standard laboratory techniques using plant and bacterial material. TEIDEL group spans multiple disciplines and the successful candidate will work across skills in molecular biology and biochemical techniques like DNA and RNA extraction, agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning, etc. The postdoc will also carry out bioinformatics projects as associated witht his role.

Position Responsibilities:

  • (10%) The propagation of plant seed and cutting stocks or assisting with field work depending on the time of the year.
  • (10) All laboratory members including this individual participate in the preparation of essential research reagents/material, maintenance of lab equipment, maintenance of the lab environment and daily lab operations including cleanup and organization, attends lab meetings, microscopy training and ensures laboratory safety compliance is required and other miscellaneous duties.
  • (30%) As with all TEIDEL members, this position also requires the ability to work in and maintain a BSL2 and BSL2-P Select Agent laboratory facility by conducting trainings, making sure the laboratory is in compliance with biosafety regulations and precisely conducting inventory.
  • (50%) Importantly this postdoc must work closely with the Principal Investigator to develop research goals for multiple independent projects, to design and implement experiments, place these findings in the broader context of the literature, and generate key preliminary data for grants. This will include formative training experience working the PI and lab members to learn new techniques when appropriate and advance the postdoc’s career goals that are in alignment with TEIDEL. Maintaining accurate, detailed notes and the preparation of research progress reports will also be essential. As with all lab members, this individual maintains current standard operating protocols; properly disposes of chemical waste; works with Associate Professor to update the lab's chemical hygiene plan and biological safety protocol and works with Associate Professor to update the lab's chemical hygiene plan and biological safety protocol and calendar and meeting scheduling.

Additional Information:

Required Qualifications: PhD in Plant Pathology.

Preferred Qualifications: Already certified to work in Select Agent spaces at The Ohio State University.
