The Postdoctoral Researcher for Creative Technology will contribute to research and development projects that integrate visualization, interactivity, and simulation. The role supports externally funded projects in areas such as scientific visualization, digital humans, digital twins, virtual production, and spatial computing. This position requires the ability to combine creative and technical expertise and to collaborate across disciplines with faculty, students, and external partners. Candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds—such as computer science, computer graphics, digital media, visual effects, interactive arts, or design—but should demonstrate technical experience in their field. Applicants with interests in AI/ML, software development, human–computer interaction (HCI), and the creation of intuitive user interfaces for exploring complex data are especially encouraged to apply.
Job Responsibilities:
Research & Creative Development: Contribute to the exploration and development of new approaches in visualization, interactivity, and simulation. (40%)
Project Participation: Support research and creative projects by applying disciplinary expertise and collaborating on shared goals. (25%)
Collaboration: Work with faculty, students, and external partners on interdisciplinary initiatives; exchange knowledge and contribute to team-based problem solving. (15%)
Dissemination: Assist with documentation, publications, presentations, and reporting of project outcomes. (15%)
Other duties as assigned. (5%)
Minimum Qualifications:
MFA or terminal degree (Ph.D., MFA, or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Digital Media, Interactive Arts, or related field. Research or creative/technical experience demonstrated through dissertation, portfolio, publications, or comparable professional work.
Preferred Qualifications:
MFA or terminal degree (Ph.D., MFA, or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Digital Media, Interactive Arts, or related field. Interdisciplinary work bridging creative and technical practice. Experience with digital twin workflows, XR/VR/AR pipelines, or spatial computing. Experience with scientific data visualization, large-scale datasets, or simulation-based visual analytics. Background in software development and/or creative coding practices. UX/UI and HCI design skills for developing user interfaces and interactive tools for navigating complex data. Prior contributions to collaborative research or large-scale creative/technical projects.
