The Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) is an institution that represents 100 years of growth from a small school of veterinary medicine in 1916 to its present role as a major veterinary educational, medical, and research center. What we want
The Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for conducting research focused on the genomic architecture of reproductive isolation in mammals. This position is in the Murphy Lab located in the Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences and the Center for Comparative Genomics, a new campus initiative to expand faculty and research teams focused on basic and applied aspects of genomic research within domestic and natural populations. This position will analyze complete genomic datasets from multiple mammalian systems to dissect the repeatability of X-linked reproductive isolation.

Salary: Will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.
Location: College Station, Texas, with occasional travel to partner institutions across the continental United States.

Required Education and Experience:
PhD in Genetics and Genomics or closely related fields.
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant experience in comparative genomics as demonstrated through publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Relevant experience in whole genome analysis of mammalian or vertebrate genomes.
Experience with comparative and evolutionary genomic approaches
Relevant laboratory skills for comparative genomics (HMW DNA extraction, library preparation, cell culture).
Experience with natural history collections.
Responsibilities:
Carry out bioinformatic analysis of mammalian genome sequence data and generating novel genome assemblies
Use computer software for genome assembly, sequence alignment, and comparative genomic analyses.
Develop new software for comparative genomics and phylogenomics.
Analyze complete genomic datasets from multiple mammalian systems to dissect the repeatability of X-linked reproductive isolation.
Analyze research data and summarize results.
Writes and may contribute to research papers, articles, and publications.
Provide general lab management and supervision of undergraduate students and research assistants.
Assist with the preparation and cleaning of the worksite.
Develop and prepare text and budgetary information for grant proposals.
Review draft proposals for accuracy and content
