Perform cutting-edge research focused on developing behavioral strategies for key epilepsy mutation that fall in the category of Developmental and Epilepsy and Encephalopathy. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of genetics and behavior, addressing critical challenges facing behavioral assessment of gene function. The research will involve a combination of genetic, physiological and behavioral studies aimed at improving our understanding epilepsy, behavior, and neural circuits underlying function of the nervous system at an organismal level. The successful candidate will prepare manuscripts for publication, reports for funding agencies, operation of research equipment, supervision of graduate students and other lab/field personnel in research. The successful candidate will also work with other behavioral geneticists to facilitate the dissemination and adoption of research outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Participation in laboratory experiments to evaluate behavioral consequences of epileptic mutations in humans transferred into flies.
Collection and analysis of experimental data using appropriate statistical methods.
Utilization of molecular techniques for gene expression analysis
Preparation of research findings for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentation of results at professional conferences.
Mentoring and providing guidance to undergraduate and graduate students involved in the project.
Collaboration with other researchers, and other stakeholders to facilitate the dissemination and adoption of research outcomes.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities Qualifications
Proven experience working with Drosophila or other invertebrate systems.
Hands-on experience with advanced molecular biology.
Experience in mentoring students or technicians.
Experience contributing to grant proposals or extension/outreach activities.
Minimum Requirements
Education – Ph.D in relevant field
Experience – Two years or related professional experience inside or outside academic preparation
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Skills in – Skills in designing and conducting behavioral research.
Skills in - Skills in statistical analysis and data management.
Knowledge of - Knowledge of excellent scientific writing and verbal communication skills, as evidenced by a strong publication record or presentations.
Ability to – Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team.
