About the Opportunity
Job Summary
Professor Paul Hand's research group in the Mathematics Department at Northeastern University is seeking a postdoc to conduct mathematical research on foundational aspects of data science. This position will focus exclusively on research and will not have teaching or service obligations. The successful candidate will devise and conducting numerical experiments, formulate theoretical hypotheses, seek proofs of theoretical claims, write up formal results, and submit results for publication. The position will be in-person and will be based in Lake Hall on the Boston, Massachusetts campus of Northeastern University.
Key Responsibilities
· 90% time: Conduct and disseminate independent research under the supervision of Professor Hand.
· 10% time: Participate in group research meetings to receive and provide feedback on scientific progress.
Qualifications
· A Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics, data science, computer science, or a related field.
· Experience training neural networks using PyTorch.
· Experience writing and submitting scientific papers for review

$59,425.00 - $83,935.00With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
