Postdoctoral Fellow, Structural Biology, Hsu Lab

South San Francisco Full time

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Genentech.

The Opportunity:

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available for a highly motivated and independent candidate to join the laboratory of Dr. Peter Hsu in the Department of Structural Biology at Genentech to answer fundamental questions in both chromatin biology and ubiquitination pathways using biochemical and structural biology tools.

The Hsu Lab works on the biochemical and structural mechanisms of large, multi-subunit protein complexes, with an emphasis on chromatin regulatory factors and E3 ubiquitin ligases involved in key cellular processes. In this role, you will have access to state-of-the-art structural biology and biophysical equipment and facilities, including a well-equipped cryoEM core for both single particle and tomography applications. In addition, you will have opportunities to collaborate with other labs both within Genentech and in academia, and present your work at conferences.

Who You Are:

  • Ph.D. with a proven track record of creativity, rigor, and success in structural biology, biochemistry, or a related field, as exemplified by first author publication(s) in high impact journals.

  • Successful experience with expression and purification of multi-protein complexes from multiple sources is required.

  • Experience with X-ray crystallography and/or single-particle cryoEM is required.

  • Independent and capable of designing, executing, and troubleshooting complex experiments to answer challenging scientific questions.

  • A strong collaborative spirit to work with others in a team to bring projects to fruition is needed.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful examples of structural determination by single particle cryoEM and/or X-ray crystallography.

  • Experience with chromatin and/or ubiquitin biochemistry.

  • Experience with protein engineering, biophysical methods for protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid interactions, or assay development.
