Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University seeks a highly computational Postdoctoral Fellow to design and implement real-time, photorealistic digital twin environments within the Ubicquia Center for Intelligent Infrastructure (UCII). This Postdoctoral Fellow position is a 12-month appointment and has the potential for renewal contingent upon performance and funding.

UCII advances production-scale intelligent infrastructure systems deployed across operational campus- and city-scale environments in partnership with municipal and industry collaborators. These deployments generate live data streams and provide a unique foundation for infrastructure-backed digital twins.

This position emphasizes real-time rendering, engine-level architecture, and scalable interactive systems for urban-scale environments.

Position Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement large-scale, real-time digital twin environments

  • Design rendering pipelines for photorealistic urban scenes at campus and district scale

  • Develop interactive systems using Unreal Engine or Unity (final platform selection is open)

  • Integrate live infrastructure telemetry into real-time visualization environments

  • Optimize scene graphs, memory management, asset streaming, and runtime performance

  • Contribute to research proposals and peer-reviewed publications

Generative AI Integration

  • Generative scene synthesis and procedural world-building

  • AI-assisted asset creation and semantic scene enrichment

  • Synthetic data generation for perception and simulation

  • Embedding real-time inference within rendering pipelines

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Visual Computing, Interactive Media, or related field
• Strong C++ and/or C# programming expertise
• Demonstrated experience building complex environments in Unreal or Unity
• Deep understanding of real-time rendering architectures and performance optimization
• Experience designing scalable interactive systems
• Strong computational background

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with GPU programming, shaders, or advanced rendering techniques
• Experience integrating external APIs or live data streams
• Background in distributed systems or edge-to-cloud architectures
