Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University seeks a highly computational Postdoctoral Fellow to architect the geospatial foundation of campus- and city-scale digital twins within the newly launched Ubicquia Center for Intelligent Infrastructure (UCII). This Postdoctoral Fellow position is a 12-month appointment and has the potential for renewal contingent upon performance and funding.

UCII advances production-scale intelligent infrastructure systems deployed across real-world environments in partnership with municipal and industry collaborators. These deployments provide a rare opportunity to construct digital twins grounded in operational infrastructure, live data, and scalable computation.

This position is not focused on conventional GIS visualization. It centers on building rigorous, high-fidelity, georeferenced 3D environments that serve as the structural backbone for analytics, simulation, and next-generation interactive systems.

Position Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement large-scale, georeferenced 3D digital twin models

  • Develop computational pipelines for integrating vector, raster, terrain, LiDAR, and photogrammetric data

  • Design procedural modeling frameworks for district- and campus-scale built environments

  • Produce interoperable assets (e.g., 3D Tiles, glTF, FBX) supporting downstream simulation platforms

  • Contribute to research proposals and peer-reviewed publications

Primary Platforms May Include

  • ArcGIS Pro

  • CityEngine

  • Python-based geospatial processing ecosystems

  • Cesium and 3D Tiles streaming architectures

Generative AI Integration

  • Generative procedural urban modeling and rule induction

  • Semantic enrichment and automated feature extraction

  • Reconstruction or inference of structural detail from sparse spatial inputs

  • Integration of foundation or multimodal models into geospatial production workflows

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Geomatics, Spatial Computing, Computer Science, or a closely related field
• Demonstrated expertise in 3D geospatial modeling and computational spatial data processing
• Strong proficiency in Python and scalable data pipeline development
• Experience working with LiDAR, elevation models, photogrammetry, and large spatial datasets
• Evidence of research productivity

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience designing procedural modeling systems
• Familiarity with Cesium, 3D Tiles, or geospatial streaming frameworks
• Experience preparing geospatial assets for real-time or simulation environments
• Background in distributed or high-performance computing systems
