In this vital role, you will advance our understanding of the biochemical and cellular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease. You will apply interdisciplinary approaches to investigate the function of proteins encoded by recently discovered genetic risk factors.

This is an academic-style training position for a highly motivated and creative scientist seeking to make both fundamental and translational contributions to the fields of biochemistry and cell biology. Working within the Cardiometabolic Disorders Discovery Research Group in Thousand Oaks, CA, you will leverage state-of-the-art technologies and broad expertise to generate foundational biological insights that can inform therapeutic development for cardiovascular disease.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will:

  • Conduct cutting-edge research to interrogate cellular pathways that go awry in cardiovascular disease
  • Interact and collaborate with scientists cross-functionally, gaining exposure to the broad process of drug discovery
  • Make novel discoveries that contribute to the broader field, disseminating scientific contributions through impactful publications and conference presentations

This is a 4-year fellowship within Amgen’s Research & Development Postdoc Program, which is dedicated to training the next generation of biomedical scientists.

Basic qualifications

  • PhD at the time of appointment in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or related life sciences disciplines

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong foundation in molecular and cellular biology with a track record of independent research, demonstrated through first author publications
  • Expertise in mechanistic biochemistry and/or cell biology in mammalian systems
  • Experience studying vesicular trafficking and/or the endolysosomal system
  • Hands-on experience with techniques such as: mammalian cell culture and transfection, SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting, immunofluorescence and live cell imaging
  • Excellent critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to stay current with scientific literature and apply insights to experimental design and interpretation
  • A strong passion for discovery and advancing new areas of biology
