Role Purpose 

As a Cost Manager specializing in post-contract services, you will be responsible for managing the commercial and cost aspects of construction projects from contract award through to completion and final account settlement. You will develop advanced technical capabilities in contract administration, variation management, and commercial risk assessment while understanding the key drivers of project cost performance and value delivery. This role involves active participation in knowledge sharing initiatives and contributing to innovative post-contract service delivery methodologies. 

What this job involves 

  • Post-Contract Commercial Management 

  • Lead monthly payment assessments and valuations, ensuring accurate measurement and certification of completed works 

  • Provisional Sum management 

  • Manage variation orders from inception through to agreement, including cost analysis, change impact assessment, and client negotiation 

  • Conduct regular cost monitoring and forecasting, producing detailed cost reports and commercial dashboards for project stakeholders 

  • Oversee contract administration duties including extension of time assessments, compensation event evaluations, and dispute resolution support 

Project Financial Performance 

  • Prepare comprehensive cash flow forecasts and monitor actual versus projected expenditure 

  • Develop and maintain project cost databases for benchmarking and future estimating purposes 

  • Client and Stakeholder Management 

  • Collaborate with project management teams to integrate cost management with overall project delivery objectives 

  • Professional Development and Innovation 

  • Develop expertise in industry-standard software including CostX, Microsoft Project, and advanced Excel applications 

Desired skills and experience 

Essential Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or equivalent professional qualification 

  • Minimum 2-3 years of post-contract cost management experience in construction or infrastructure projects 

  • Strong understanding of standard forms of contract (JCT, NEC, FIDIC) and their commercial implications 

  • Proven experience in variation management, payment certification, and final account settlements 

Technical Competencies 

  • Advanced proficiency in cost management software (CostX preferred) and Microsoft Office suite 

  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and digital measurement techniques 

  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex commercial data and contract documentation 

  • Understanding of construction methods, programming, and project delivery processes

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines 

  • Collaborative approach with ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary project teams
