DESCRIPTION

Join Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Portfolio Manager within CMD Software (PMO). In this role, you will operate at the centre of the CMD SW portfolio, transforming complex and often incomplete data into clear, actionable insights that drive business decisions.

You will own the curation and integrity of portfolio data, enabling leadership to prioritise investments, balance demand versus capacity, and align execution to strategic objectives. This role is focused on portfolio insight and decision support, partnering closely with Product, Project, Finance, and R&D to improve the quality and speed of decision-making across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Data & Insight

  • Own and maintain portfolio datasets including projects, product requirements (PRs), demand, capacity, and financials
  • Clean, structure, and validate incoming data from intake, ADO, and portfolio tools
  • Translate raw data into actionable insights, trends, and recommendations
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting (e.g., Power BI, Excel)

Decision Support & Prioritisation

  • Support portfolio prioritisation using structured, data-driven models (strategy, value, risk, urgency)
  • Provide clear recommendations to leadership and governance boards
  • Analyse trade-offs across scope, time, cost, and resource constraints
  • Enable informed decisions on project initiation, sequencing, and investment

Intake & Portfolio Curation

  • Manage the intake pipeline from idea through proposal to portfolio backlog
  • Ensure submissions are complete, standardised, and decision-ready
  • Partner with Product Management to refine ideas into structured proposals
  • Maintain a healthy, prioritised portfolio backlog aligned to business strategy

Supply & Demand Planning

  • Analyse resource demand versus available capacity
  • Identify gaps, constraints, and optimisation opportunities
  • Support planning of project start timelines and sequencing

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Project, Finance, and R&D teams
  • Improve data quality, consistency, and transparency across the portfolio
  • Communicate insights effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree with 6+ years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience in analytics, finance, PMO, portfolio management, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance, Data Analytics, Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Science, or similar

Experience & Skills

  • Strong analytical capability with experience working with complex, incomplete, or ambiguous datasets
  • Proven ability to translate data into meaningful business insights and recommendations
  • Experience working with portfolio or project data (e.g., ADO, PPM tools, or similar systems)
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with Power BI, SQL, or Python preferred
  • Experience supporting business decision-making, not just reporting metrics

Core Competencies

  • High attention to detail and data integrity
  • Structured thinker with the ability to bring clarity to ambiguity
  • Strong communication and presentation skills across all organisational levels
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment in matrix environments
  • Comfortable challenging assumptions using data
  • Pragmatic, outcome-focused, and self-directed

Additional Preferred Experience

  • Experience in PMO or portfolio management environments
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Financial modelling and ROI analysis
  • Strong financial acumen and strategic thinking

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 25% as needed
