Department Overview:

The Portfolio and Planning Director, US Payments role orchestrates planning and execution oversight for our consumer and small business payments scope. Accountable for managing our payments change portfolio, this role interacts across the team to ensure our initiatives funding and spend forecasts are in line, risks are understood, and key timelines and milestones are being met.  This role is critical to us achieving our roadmap by helping organize and drive the fast-paced execution of world-class payment capabilities.  This role has broad exposure given management of monthly business review materials, recurring stakeholder forums, and routines with our finance partners.

The Program Director is accountable and responsible for ensuring that all project deliverables and outcomes are implemented on time, within budget and meeting the expectations of the business. This position is also responsible for the ongoing communications for program activities to all stake holders.

Depth & Scope:

  • Executes program management deliverables within budget working with staff and business partners to develop content of those deliverables
  • Controls change to project scope through accepted change management processes and documentation
  • Investigates, escalates and ensures that all project issues are resolved
  • Effectively sets the tone from the top regarding expectations for the importance of Risk Management principles evidenced by, but not limited to, completion of online training, documented processes and controls in all departments
  • Establishes oversight of business lines compliance/risk controls and periodically evaluate risk mitigation efforts to make adjustments as risk/department influences change
  • Ensures compliance to TDBFG (or TDA) project management methodology
  • Ensures that recognized project management processes, discipline and controls are consistently applied to projects
  • Provides recommendations on project organization and governance structure and puts agreed organization structure in place
  • Provides leadership and guidance to project related staff and/or business lines in support of project portfolio
  • Successfully negotiates with business partners and/or vendors for skilled resources as necessary
  • Effectively manages communication to ensure that the Project Sponsors and Business Owners are aware of any significant changes in the project status, in a timely manner
  • Develops Risk Mitigation/Contingency plans as required as a result of readiness assessment
  • Leads less experienced project specialists/participants in representing the business needs and in initiating solutions
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of the technical and business aspects of the project in order to effectively manage the project and resources

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and or work experience equivalent to Bachelor's degree required
  • 5+ years' experience required
  • PMP Certification or equivalent required
  • Previous management experience with the ability to coach, counsel, and train technical staff
  • Ability to translate technical information for nontechnical users.
  • Strong communications skills including the ability to influence others' actions and decisions without express authority
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, including task and responsibility delegation
  • Excellent follow up skills and the ability to manage competing priorities according to business needs
  • In depth knowledge of business line business model, operations, and related processes
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships across departmental boundaries
