Major Duties:
Qualifications: To qualify for a Plumber/Pipefitter your resume and supporting documentation must support: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and that you have the required ability or potential to perform the job.Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: perform the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as installing, repairing, and maintaining facilities, fire protection, and other equipment; using plumber tools, wrenches, pipe cutters, pipe vises, etc. to diagnose defects/malfunctions and make repairs; maintaining daily records, completing inspection reports, and answering trouble calls. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: The incumbent makes repairs and installation from ladders, scaffoldings, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: The incumbent of this position worked inside and outside where it is dirty, dusty, and greasy.Installs and makes repairs in areas where foul smelling fumes are present. Must be able to wear all types of respirators,safety shoes, glasses, gloves, aprons, asbestos gloves, and all types of protective clothing. Occasionally is exposed to possibility of uncomfortable heat conditions. Frequently is exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, bruises, scrapes, and infections. Occasionally is exposed to the possibility of broken bones. Subject to work with or around asbestos piping and covering. The incumbent of this position has been designated as an emergency employee. The term "Emergency Employee" is used to designate those employees who must report to work in emergency situations. Emergency dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to these employees. The employees who occupy these positions may be required to report for duty in any situation that prevents significant numbers of employees in the local area from reporting for work on time or which requires agencies to close all or part of their activities.
