Job Description

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Plant Engineer will be the lead engineer for the IKO Hawkesbury Shingle Plant. This role focuses on infrastructure upgrades and systems improvement to enhance production efficiency, quality, and capacity. The Plant Engineer also provides day-to-day engineering support to the facility and ensures compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement and execute capital projects and process improvements to drive sustainable production output
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to provide engineering oversight to the facility infrastructure (e.g. boilers, HVAC, compressed air) and all process equipment
  • Manage projects from design to fabrication and commissioning, incorporating regulatory compliance. Typical projects would include infrastructure upgrades and improvements to mechanical process systems that support the production lines
  • Develop and execute plans to address all facets of plant operation (e.g. environmental issue, cost reduction, equipment installation, optimizing utilities and energy consumption) to keep plant running smoothly and generate measurable benefits to the plant operation
  • Support various environmental programs/areas (e.g. hazardous materials/waste management, solid waste management, environmental noise management, air quality management); Develop and sustain the environmental management system
  • Project management: Define scope; risk management; project schedule and budgets; measure and control project performance; monitor and control changes; control work results and close out the project.

Qualifications 

  • A Professional Engineer in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of plant engineering experience in: capital investment, improvements in manufacturing systems, preventive maintenance, infrastructure maintenance, troubleshooting of process equipment
  • A hands-on engineer with a track record of success in a fast-paced production continuous production environment
  • Experience working effectively with all team members including Maintenance, Production, Corporate Engineering, and Corporate Health, Safety & Environment
  • AutoCAD knowledge and experience working with draftsmen
  • Maintenance management, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with equipment, facility and BAS validation, operation and maintenance
  • A strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skill
