About the Role

We have a position at our Portland Smelter for a Planning Superintendent. Reporting to the Maintenance & Reliability Manager, you will provide leadership and management expertise to the planning department enabling it to effectively progress towards achieving Portland’s strategic operational objectives.
As the Planning Superintendent you will be responsible for driving continuous improvement of maintenance activities, through supporting, coaching, and leading the planning team to drive effective continuous improvement and delivery of efficient maintenance planning activities.
Key responsibilities include:
Contributing to achieving sustainability and cost control by identifying and implementing improvements on equipment and work procedures.
Establishing maintenance schedules, work procedures, downtime, critical items list and spare part requirements in conjunction with the planners and reliability team.
Accountability for budgeting, cost control, planning and the training and development of employees within the department.
Supplying cost information to the Maintenance & Reliability Manager to assist in developing the maintenance budget, and producing long-term schedules of equipment activities.
Establishing, improving and monitoring work standards of the planning team members as well as providing technical advice and assistance that may relate to department, individual employees or a combination of both.

What you can bring to the
A highly collaborative leadership style where you have the ability to drive a high performing culture engaging and developing our people to become their very best.
An electrical or mechanical qualification or trade along with vast experience in planning or scheduling, or major plant shutdowns as essential.
Passion and commitment to health and safety across our own Alcoa team, contractors and third parties.
Strong attention to detail, alignment to set targets and directions to achieve in market conditions.
Great interpersonal skills to communication with and at all levels of the organisation, and effective approach to Change Management and guiding principles.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership position or have worked in a similar operation or industry to Alcoa.

Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%). Alcoa manages the day-to-day operations at the smelter and we produce approximately 19 per cent of Australia’s total aluminium production in Portland.
