Planner Scheduler

As a Planner/Scheduler, you will play a pivotal role in developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules for multiple construction projects across both pre-construction and construction phases. You will collaborate closely with project teams—including estimating, design, engineering, procurement, construction, and subcontractors—to ensure schedules are realistic, achievable, and aligned with contract and company requirements.

This role is instrumental in tracking progress, analyzing performance, identifying potential delays, and proactively developing mitigation strategies. Your responsibilities at Bird will span from bid support and baseline schedule development to construction monitoring, schedule analysis, and project closeout.

This role will be based out of our Edmonton, AB office.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Analyze RFP documents (including drawings, specifications, and schedule-related requirements) to inform schedule development and develop preliminary and master project schedules in Primavera P6 / MS Project for use during bidding and planning phases.

  • Implement standard scheduling practices including WBS structure, activity coding, naming conventions, and calendar settings.

  • Ensure schedule durations and logic are validated by internal production databases, Superintendents, and subtrades.

  • Update project schedules weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, incorporating as-built dates, short-term forecasting, and delay impacts.

  • Perform on-site visits as needed to validate progress data and ensure accurate updates.

  • Generate “look-ahead” schedules to support field operations and identify near-term issues.

  • Track and document schedule impacts due to changes, delays, or unforeseen conditions. Identify, document, and analyze delays, performing Time Impact Analyses (TIA) as needed.

  • Analyze project performance using earned value, float trends, KPIs, and schedule variance metrics.

  • Create as-built vs. as-planned comparisons to support lessons learned and claims analysis.

  • Support 4D/5D schedule integration with 3D models and cost tracking for sequencing and cash flow reporting.

  • Analyze contractor and subcontractor schedules for realism, compliance, and integration into the master project schedule.

  • Track and analyze labor, equipment, and material usage and productivity.

  • Evaluate and forecast resource loading, availability, and demand across the project lifecycle.

What We Are Looking For

  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Hands-on past experience in roles such as Field Engineer, Superintendent, Project Manager, or similar is an asset.

  • Gold Seal Certification, PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) is an asset

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in planning/scheduling within the construction industry.

  • Proficient in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.

  • Deep understanding of construction sequencing, critical path method (CPM), and project lifecycle stages.

  • Familiar with ICI (Industrial, Commercial, Institutional) construction techniques.

  • Knowledge of procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout processes.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple schedules and prioritize under tight deadlines.

  • Effective in problem-solving, scenario planning, and performance analysis.
