Job Summary: You will serve as a Mechanical Engineer in the Foundry Engineering Branch (1420.1), Manufacturing Engineering Division (1420), Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (1400) in Philadelphia Pennsylvania a detachment of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major Duties:

  • You will provide engineering direction and guidance as needed in areas such as; preparation, review and approval of Technical Work Documents (TWDs) and administrative documents in support of propulsor manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • You will conduct a thorough evaluation of new or modified processes aimed at improving manufacturing operations and overall efficiency.
  • You will provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers and technicians, promoting knowledge transfer and best practices within and across departments.
  • You will train and mentor entry-level engineers, fostering professional growth and development.
  • You will display previous leadership responsibilities, overseeing project execution, personnel coordination, and decision-making to ensure continuity of operations as a senior engineer.

Qualifications: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience reviewing and coordinating geometry data provided by design agents and external contractors to ensure that data arrangements are sufficient for complete envelope definition, surface smoothness and fairness, and include all necessary information for the development of propeller and propulsor machining and assembly technical work instructions. Experience displaying a skillset of the development and validation of geometry data for complex non-flow path critical (NFPC) products, particularly those required for propulsor component machining and assembly. Experience coordinating with government agencies and private contractors to resolve technical issues, ensure compliance with specifications, and meet all project objectives and deadlines. Experience preparing detailed cost estimates to support project funding requests and budget planning. Experience producing proficient comprehensive schedule estimates for the completion of complex machining and assembly operations. Experience evaluating design goals and performing advanced technical assessments, identifying the most efficient and cost-effective procedures, and preparing supporting documentation including procedures, drawings, and program files. Experience conducting thorough evaluations of new or modified processes aimed at improving manufacturing operations and overall efficiency.
