The Community PRN Pharmacy Technician supports outpatient pharmacy operations at AGMC, conveniently located in the Main Lobby just beyond the main hospital entrance. In this role, the technician assists with patient checkout, prescription processing, and maintaining safe, high-quality filling workstations, including controlled substance back counts, insurance adjudication, and inventory management. This position does not include bedside delivery, compounding, or clinical responsibilities, allowing focus on efficient, patient-friendly pharmacy service. This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm, 8:00am to 6:30pm, 8:30am to 7:00pm and Sat 9:00am to 1:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist pharmacists in filling inpatient orders, including completion of necessary documentation. 
  • Prepare, deliver and collect all pharmacy items throughout the medical center including re-stocking of automated dispensing cabinets. 
  • Perform floor checks, stock checks and assigned unit review as required. 
  • Assist Pharmacists in monitoring stock for outdated medications and properly dispose of them in a timely manner. 
  • Process medication returns/refunds to patient accounts and compound non-sterile medications according to USP795 regulations. 
  • Prepackage medication as necessary and according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 
  • Answer telephones and assist callers with needs that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. 
  • Interact with EPIC, our dispensing automation software (e.g. Pyxis, Carousels, etc.) and Pharmacy Keeper software, to answer all questions related to the processing of a medication order. 
  • Assist customers at service window including house staff, couriers and others as needed. 
  • Perform general cleaning duties as assigned to maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy areas. 
  • Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) verified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) 
  • Active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Prefer Associates degree or some college coursework
  • Hospital inpatient experience  
  • Pharmacy Technician experience
  • Proficiency in technical skills used in pharmacy practice 
  • Understanding of medical terminology and calculations 
  • Experience with EPIC electronic healthcare record other similar programs

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant standing and walking
  • Working with infrequent disagreeable features and safety hazards

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required
