The Pharmacy Technician – Oncology (PRN) role at Cleveland Clinic supports oncology pharmacy operations and provides float coverage across multiple locations, offering broad exposure within the health system. Caregivers in this role work closely with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and nursing staff in a collaborative and supportive environment while gaining experience in a specialized oncology setting. Responsibilities include compounding sterile preparations throughout the day, supporting inventory management, and assisting with the ordering of medications and supplies. This role provides a rewarding opportunity to develop expertise in oncology pharmacy while expanding skills and gaining experience across different pharmacy sites.

This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position will provide coverage for PTO and call offs. Potential shifts can be between 7:30am and 5:30pm. No weekends required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.  
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. 
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.  
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.  
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.  
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students. 

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • A high school diploma or GED  
  • Licensed in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician  
  • Ability to communicate with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner 
  • Demonstration of emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships  
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds  
  • Basic computer skills  

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program  
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). CPhT through the PTCB is required within 18 months of hire  
  • Six months of hospital experience  

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

•     Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
