Repsol is seeking a Payroll Accounting Analyst based in The Woodlands, TX, within the US People & Organization function.
Summary
The Payroll Accounting Analyst is responsible for processing and managing the payroll for all employees within our organization. They ensure that employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of accounting principles and payroll procedures. This is a hands-on payroll accounting role suited for an early-career professional with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid foundation in accounting principles. While the role interacts with employee benefits, it is not a benefits administration position—it is focused on the payroll impact, accounting treatment, and deduction processing associated with benefits.
Payroll Processing & Accounting
Collect and verify timekeeping data from various sources, including timesheets and time tracking software.
Calculate wages, deductions, and overtime for employees.
Process payroll using payroll software or integrated HRIS (Human Resources Information System) tools. Primarily WorkDay
Ensure that all necessary payroll adjustments are accurately made, such as bonuses, commissions, and reimbursements.
Tax Compliance
Accurately calculate and withhold federal, state, and local taxes, as well as Social Security and Medicare.
Prepare and submit payroll tax reports and payments to relevant government agencies on time.
Keep updated with tax regulations and changes to ensure compliance.
Benefits Administration
Deduct and process employee contributions for benefits, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and other voluntary deductions.
Ensure that benefits deductions align with employee elections and agreements.
Record Keeping and Reporting
Maintain accurate payroll records, including pay rates, deductions, and hours worked.
Prepare and distribute pay stubs and payroll reports to employees.
Generate reports for management and finance teams as needed.
Compliance and Audits
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
Assist with internal and external payroll audits when necessary.
Respond to payroll-related inquiries and issues from employees.
Problem Resolution
Investigate and resolve discrepancies in payroll data, such as errors in time reporting or incorrect deductions.
Address and correct payroll-related issues in a timely manner.
Process Improvement:
Suggest and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance in payroll processing.
Stay updated on industry best practices and technological advancements in payroll.
Qualifications
Full U.S. work authorization without restrictions or future sponsorship requirements.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field strongly preferred.
3–5 years of experience in payroll processing and payroll accounting preferred. This role is designed for an early-career professional developing expertise in payroll accounting and analytics.
Solid understanding of payroll processes, accounting principles, and compliance requirements
Spanish language skills (professional proficiency) strongly preferred
Experience with Workday Payroll strongly preferred
Experience with HRIS systems (SAP exposure, including SAP HANA, is a plus)
Knowledge of tax regulations, labor laws, and compliance requirements.
Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations.
Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced, bi-monthly payroll cycle environment
Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Certifications such as the Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) can be an advantage but are not always required.
