Job Summary: If you're looking to play a critical role as an expert technical authority responsible for the business analysis function, you've come to the right place! This position is located in the Office of Patent Automation (OPA) and serves as a Patent Business Analyst integrating patent examining expertise into the development of automated systems utilized by the Patents stakeholders for filing patent applications and patent examination and other patent processes.

Major Duties:

  • The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia. This position is eligible under the Situational Telework Program per agency and business unit discretion/policy. You're committed to solving significant problems complicated by interfaces and interrelationships between and among programs, systems, functions, policies and numerous critical issues. You want to take the lead as a project management group leader responsible for integrating patent examining expertise during the development of automated systems serving patent examiners. You enjoy planning and organizing, major analytical studies involving the substance of key age patent business programs. Qualifications: You must meet the following United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements for the advertised position. You must meet all qualification requirements including time-in-grade (refer to 5 CFR 300.604 for more information on time-in-grade) by the closing date of the job announcement. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-13. Specialized experience includes: Applying patent examination expertise to develop business requirements and user guidance for automated systems; Collaborating with external stakeholders, examiners, and patent staff to improve tools used from filing through final disposition; Translating examination processes into practical, user-centered solutions that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across end-to-end prosecution. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
