Part Time Alumnae Career Advisor, Beyond Barnard (Temporary)

Reporting to the Executive Director of Beyond Barnard on a temporary, part-time basis, the Part-Time Alumnae Career Advisor provides 30-minute career-advising meetings on a range of topics covered by Beyond Barnard. These topics include, but are not limited to, job documents, career search strategies, graduate school search strategies, graduate application processes, and other related topics. The Advisor enters availability into Beyond Barnard’s advising platform Handshake, completes advising and follow-ups as necessary, and meets with the Executive Director as appropriate to report on advising challenges. Their focus is on alumnae of the College, but the advisor can also provide individual virtual advising on an as-needed basis to current Barnard students. The advisor may perform other advising duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual advising alumnae on all topics covered by Beyond Barnard; maintain (and share across the entire Beyond Barnard team) an understanding of best practices related to advising for students and alumnae across all career stages.

  • Schedule blocks of advising time in Handshake and manage the administrative tasks of completing appointments in Handshake (and taking notes on appointments as appropriate).

  • Share resources and additional services with Barnard alumnae as needed.

  • Advise students to help provide additional virtual advising bandwidth for Beyond Barnard as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional knowledge of career advising best practices

  • Ability to adapt advising approach to many different stages of experience and diverse backgrounds represented by Barnard alumnae community

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of related experience that includes demonstrated experience in advising college students and graduates on career development and preparation for graduate and professional education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree preferred.

  • Experience with cloud based appointment tracking platforms.

Pay Rate: $47/hour @ approximately 10.5 hours/week

This is a temporary position with an expected duration of 2-4 months.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
