Salary Range: $57736 - $158322 Per Year

Job Summary: This is a non-reimbursable detail assignment for a period of six months with the option to extend. Applicants must be current Department of Justice employees who live in the National Capitol Region.

Major Duties:

  • OES is seeking a Paralegal Specialist to provide direct support to the Department's Policy and Regulatory Clearance team. Depending on need and interest, additional selections made be made to support the Executive Correspondence team. The incumbent performs a variety of duties to support the Department's policy clearance process. The duties of a Paralegal Specialist generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist with intake and tracking of clearance items from OIRA, OMB, and the State Department. Assist with monitoring the Department's clearance inbox and tracking clearances. Assist Policy Analysts in the preparation of clearance responses for approval by the senior leadership offices to approve final transmission of the Department's response to OIRA, OMB, or the State Department. Assist in the preparation of regular and ad-hoc reports for Department leadership and components. Assist in the development and/or updating of briefing materials, fact sheets, standard operating procedures, process charts, and similar materials. Draft and edit documents, reports, and correspondence. Compile and interpret data from legal and non-legal reference material. Verify citations and legal references in documents. Review Executive Orders, statutes, regulations, and other legal authorities to identify, assess, assign, and track responsibilities assigned to the Department's Executive Secretariate program including the clearance process. Assist with time-sensitive responses to interagency and White House requests for assistance, information, and clearance of policy and other documents. Carry out special projects requested by senior leadership.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications: To qualify for the position of Paralegal Specialist you must have experience: Reviewing standard legal documents, reports, and correspondence; Researching public records; Applying knowledge of basic legal principles and concepts; AND Tracking and maintaining detailed records. Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include: Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills Skill in multi-tasking and ability to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding, often fast-paced environment with short deadlines to produce responses Ability to identify and solve problems and work independently Ability to exercise sound judgment to weigh competing priorities You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including time-in-grade, by 03/16/2026 of this announcement.
