Paralegal

Dechert LLP is seeking a highly organized Paralegal to join our dynamic and growing litigation practice. The successful candidate will deliver end-to-end support to attorneys—overseeing document productions, managing e-discovery workflows, conducting targeted legal research, cite checking and proofreading pleadings and correspondence, and coordinating all facets of trial preparation. This position requires a commitment to billing a minimum of 1,500 hours annually, with the flexibility to work extended hours during intensive trial periods. Job Description

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage large and complex case files including discovery documents, pleadings and correspondence files.
  • Assist with brief preparation including cite-checking, blue booking and exhibit identification and organization.
  • Prepare case specific workbooks, witness files and binders for depositions and trial preparation, consistently producing high-quality, client-ready work product requiring minimal review.
  • Create and manage exhibit lists for trial; delegate tasks to junior paralegals based on strengths.
  • Assist in trial preparation and attendance at trial and hearings.
  • Coordinate flow of information between Dechert lawyers, co-counsel and clients; distilling complex matters into concise communications for internal and external clients.
  • Obtain client documents, public records and other factual information via Internet, PACER and various government agencies.
  • Handle court filings (both CM/ECF and state), and document retrievals.
  • Monitor and maintain case management /docket and diary tracking.
  • Receipt, docketing, and calendaring of outgoing and incoming court papers.
  • Research through the court system and online services and resources available to the firm; leveraging deep knowledge of resources to identify the best research tools for each matter.
  • Practices and fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation.
  • Performs any and all other duties as necessary and as assigned by your supervisor for efficient functioning of the Department, Office and Firm.

 

QUALIFICATIONS / KSAs

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. A Paralegal Certificate is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute an overall strategy and approach to assigned matters from start to finish with little or no supervision; provides complete and accurate work product and assistance to colleagues at all levels with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to work directly with partners, associates, co-counsel and clients.
  • Ability to engage firm resources in the completion of large projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented with effective written and oral communication
  • Superior proofreading and research skills including electronic research using Westlaw and/or Lexis
  • Ability to multi-task and to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to think critically and analytically in a pressured environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, IManage/Worksite and familiarity with computerized litigation databases (Relativity and Case Notebook, a plus)

 

Additional Job Description

At the time of this posting, the salary range for this position in New York $109,000.00 to $137,000.00 annually. Actual compensation is commensurate with job related knowledge, skills, experience and location of the position.
