The Physical Security Team at Blackstone is responsible for protecting the firm’s people, offices, and operations across the globe. This includes providing security for in-house events, external events, executive protection, and day-to-day operations to ensure a safe and secure environment. We are seeking a full-time employee to join the team in our New York office to support these critical functions.

The Role:

The Senior Vice President of Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery is a seasoned professional with extensive expertise in business continuity and disaster recovery, capable of thriving in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This individual will be responsible for managing and developing a comprehensive global strategic plan and program that focuses on mitigating financial, reputational, and regulatory risks through effective business continuity, crisis management, and disaster recovery strategies, while establishing clear objectives and performance metrics.

Blackstone is seeking a corporate business continuity and disaster recovery professional to manage the overall Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) program, including its development, administration, training/awareness, testing/exercising, and execution. The role will also involve ensuring the disaster recovery program meets both external requirements (e.g., SOX, DORA) and internally set standards. This individual will design the strategy and architecture for programs that include: Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Policies and Procedures, Awareness Training, Incident Response Management, and Enterprise Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Management.

Business Continuity Management & Physical Security Management:

  • Oversee the Business Continuity Program: Collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure a right-sized and appropriately documented plan is in place that effectively supports the firm’s continuity requirements. Redesign programs to focus on functionality and outcomes rather than task-based approaches.

  • Assess, Implement, and Operationalize Tools: Evaluate and deploy tools to support Business Continuity Planning, including BCM software and emergency communication platforms, ensuring scalability and effectiveness.

  • Provide Leadership in Business Continuity Planning: Manage and enhance Business Continuity Plans across the organization, including offices in regulatory jurisdictions such as the U.S., Europe, and Asia, ensuring alignment with global standards.

  • Collaborate Enterprise-Wide: Partner with select business units to develop and maintain up-to-date business continuity plans using a risk-based approach, ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements and alignment with firm-wide objectives.

  • Conduct Business Impact Analyses (BIA): Lead periodic BIAs with business units to assess and update the impact of disruptions across all functional areas and locations. Identify critical functions, key personnel, potential threats, external factors, vulnerabilities, and related recovery requirements and priorities, ensuring they are clearly defined and quantified.

  • Client Communication and DDQs: Participate in client working sessions and assist in completing Due Diligence Questionnaires (DDQs) to effectively communicate and ensure a clear understanding of the firm’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) program, highlighting its capabilities, compliance, and alignment with industry best practices.

  • Support GSOC Operations: Assist in the daily operations of the Global Security Operations Center (GSOC), ensuring the effective monitoring and response to security incidents across all Blackstone offices globally.

  • Incident Management: Act as a secondary point of contact for managing physical security incidents, coordinating responses, and ensuring timely resolution.

Disaster Recovery:

  • Oversee the Disaster Recovery Program: Provide leadership and direction to ensure the technology business unit’s disaster recovery program aligns with the firm’s business continuity requirements and regulatory obligations, including SOX and DORA.

  • Enhance and Communicate the Program: Design and implement a scalable and functional disaster recovery framework. Ensure stakeholders understand their roles and responsibilities within the program through clear communication and training.

  • Identify Critical Applications: Collaborate with technology teams and business stakeholders to identify critical applications and systems essential to the firm’s operations, ensuring their recovery priorities are clearly defined and documented.

  • Partner with GRC: Work closely with the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) team to identify in-scope applications for SOX and DORA compliance, ensuring the disaster recovery program meets both external regulatory requirements and internal standards.

  • Engage with Application Owners: Partner with application owners to develop disaster recovery plans that address specific recovery objectives, dependencies, and risks for each critical application, ensuring alignment with business needs.

  • Collaborate with Development Standards Team: Work with BXTI’s internal development standards team to design and implement disaster recovery strategies that align with the firm’s technology architecture, development practices, and operational goals.

  • Periodic Testing and Validation: Lead disaster recovery tests and simulations to validate recovery strategies, identify gaps, and ensure readiness to respond effectively to disruptions.

  • Reporting and Metrics: Establish clear metrics and reporting mechanisms to monitor the effectiveness of the disaster recovery program, providing visibility to senior leadership and driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications:​

  • Bachelor's degree in related field at a minimum and a master's degree in related field highly desirable but not required.

  • 10 plus years of Progressive Experience in Managing Security Department Staffing, Budgets and Invoicing, Contractors, Vendors, and Corporate Security Programs and Projects

  • Must be able to work in a nimble face paced highly accountable environment

  • Evidence of excellence in communication and negotiation, especially in complex settings and in a cross-cultural environment.

  • Demonstrated sound judgement in dealing with complex, sensitive or ambiguous issues.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to establish and maintain a wide range of effective relationships and manage issue resolution.

  • Pragmatic, solution-focused approach with well-developed perceptions and judgement.

  • Successful track record as a Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Coordinator of a complex, multi-business line financial organization.

  • Ability to lead groups through various phases of day-to-day Business Continuity and recovery activities.

  • Proven experience taking a leadership role to drive BCM planning for diverse departments, working with various departments to identify solutions to any critical issues.

  • Ability to manage during critical period in case activation of BC plan is necessary.

  • Ability to effectively market the BCM program to both Senior Management and individual users.

  • Training and mentoring skills to facilitate BCM training and awareness throughout the organization

  • Ability to complete complex planning, resourcing, efforts estimate, and project management, escalating as required.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Strong customer service focus.

Expected annual base salary range:

$175,000 - $235,000

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.

Additional compensation and benefits offered in connection with the role consist of comprehensive health benefits, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, and FSA benefits; paid time off; life insurance; 401(k) plan; and discretionary bonuses. Certain employees may also be eligible for equity and other incentive compensation at Blackstone’s sole discretion.
