Job Summary: About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports and recreation activities.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Painting Worker I have the ability to perform common duties of a Painter Worker position. I can apply gloss, semi-gloss, enamel, and lacquer using spray guns and brushes, select paint nozzle opening size for proper surface distribution and prepare interior and exterior buildings by removing old paint. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods to blast interior and exterior surfaces at varying heights up to 15 feet. Uses hands, legs, and arms to climb vertical ladders to staging or platforms. Lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and components that weigh up to 75 pounds, and occasionally, objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Controls blasting hoses with nozzles with working pressures in excess of 100 psi. Must have good eye, hand, and foot coordination and endurance to safely operate equipment for prolonged periods. As a forklift and vehicle operator, light to moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls. Subject to body strain caused by vibration of equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in shotblast booths, paint booths, and sometimes outside under varying temperature, illumination, and ventilation conditions. Is subjected to the possibility of cuts, burns, strains and broken bones. Is exposed to noise, dust, and flying abrasives, rust, scale, paint chips, slag, or loose objects. Is required to wear heavy protective gloves, clothing, ear protection, air-fed helmets or hoods, respirators, and safety shoes for prolonged periods of time. There is a chance of injuries ranging from loss of life or limbs to burns, cuts, bruises, sprains, and nausea. Subject to injury from falling objects, collisions, shifting loads, overturning, etc., when operating forklifts or motor vehicles. Responsible to observe all safety and health rules established for the protection of self and others. Comply with regulations, observe and report hazards, and assist in overall accident prevention effort. Participate in all protection and safety programs, systems and efforts.
