Job Summary: This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, YARD Industrial Department, Services Group in Baltimore, MD.

Major Duties:

• You will perform all kinds of skilled journeyman painting tasks involved in the construction, repair, maintenance, overhaul and conversion of a wide variety of types and sizes of marine craft and vessels and in the connection with miscellaneous manufacturing projects performed at the Yard. Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include: Preparing metal surfaces for painting by removing grease, old paint, rust, scale, etc., as necessary. Cleaning and smoothing surfaces with sandpaper, emery cloth and wire brushes. Preparing wood or plaster surfaces for painting by removing old paint, filling cracks and holes, sanding, and applying fillers and base coats. Mixing paints and other surfacing materials. Preparing putty and other patching or filling materials. Painting surfaces with various types of paint, varnish, shellac, latex, epoxy paints, lacquer, and enamel, employing brushes, spray painting equipment, or paint rolling equipment. Setting up and operating spray painting equipment. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
