Zayo is seeking a Packet Engineer who will be responsible for performing network and customer circuit grooms, network turn up and decommissioning functions. Our Packet Engineer will also provide necessary project management that will ensure network plans or optimization-related grooms are executed as required.
Responsibilities:
Analyze In-depth analysis on networks to reduce off-net costs and develop plans for optimal use of network infrastructure.
Perform maintenance window grooming of customer and network circuits in support of optimization efforts.
Provision customer services in multiple voice switching platforms and transport equipment in preparation for migration activity.
Provision, test and turn up network voice trunks with other carriers.
Configure customer services and network links in routers and other data equipment.
Configure, test and turn up new network devices and decommission legacy equipment.
Provide support to field operations, installation vendors and other internal and external groups as needed.
Research and prepare documentation supporting new technologies and products.
In depth understanding of voice features and products including SIP, PRI, CAS, GR303 and business lines.
Strong knowledge of Voice networks including Metaswitch and Nortel DMS switches.
Audit network site database inventory to identify all impacted equipment and facilities for Optimization projects.
Performs other related duties or projects as assigned.
Mentors junior engineers
Qualifications:
At least 5 years of experience in engineering/planning transport networks utilizing SONET, Digital Cross Connects, Wave Division Multiplexers, Ethernet, VoIP, Voice switching, power and common systems.
Excellent customer management skills (verbal and written) including prioritization, risk analysis, conflict management/resolution.
Experience with Salesforce and MetaSolv applications.
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of functional teams, and strong interpersonal skills for supporting and advising sales teams on proper systems and process.
Strong attention to detail, superb organizational skills, and ability to multi-task and prioritize.
Ability to work across functional boundaries.
Solve practical problems and deal with several variables in dynamic situations.
Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to be flexible in work schedule and to meet strict deadlines under minimal supervision.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
Additional equivalent work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Estimated Base Pay Range: $77,100 - $90,000 USD/annually
The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.
