The OSP Field Installation and Repair Technician (Lead) is an advanced field technician role responsible for the deployment, activation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of GoNetspeed’s Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network. This position supports residential and small to medium business customers and operates with a high level of independence in the field.
This role requires strong technical expertise, accountability, and leadership, with a significant emphasis on advanced Wi Fi performance, in home networking, and customer experience. The Lead Technician works independently on assigned work while also serving as a technical escalation resource for internal technicians and contract installation partners.

Job Summary
• Independently install, troubleshoot, and repair FTTH services for residential and small to medium business customers
• Lead complex installations, service activations, and advanced trouble resolution with minimal supervision
• Serve as a technical escalation point for fiber, Wi Fi, and in home networking issues
• Support and assist contract installation resources to ensure consistent quality and customer experience
• Support inventory counts, distribution and reconciliation as needed.
• Assists management in workload resource scheduling as needed
• Participate in a rotating on call schedule to support after hours service restoration and critical outages
Primary Responsibilities
Fiber Installation & Service
• Complete FTTH installations including fiber drops, ONTs, network interface devices, in home wiring, and routers
• Perform fiber testing, troubleshooting, splicing, and field repair
• Configure customer networking equipment
• Perform interior customer phone backfeeding only
• Work independently while maintaining quality and safety standards
Advanced Wi Fi & Networking
• Perform advanced Wi Fi troubleshooting related to coverage, interference, and performance
• Install and troubleshoot mesh Wi Fi and extender systems
• Resolve Wi Fi issues during installs and trouble tickets
Contractor Oversight
• Act as a point of escalation for contract installation resources
• Assist with troubleshooting, workmanship correction, and standard adherence
Leadership & Safety
• Serve as a technical resource for other technicians
• Maintain documentation, tools, inventory, and safety compliance
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Strong understanding of FTTH architecture and service practices
• Advanced Wi Fi and home networking troubleshooting skills
• Proficiency with fiber testing equipment and diagnostics
• Attention to detail and commitment to customer experience
On Call & Schedule Expectations
• Participate in a rotating on call schedule to support after hours service issues, outages, and restorations
• Availability for evenings, weekends, and emergency response as required
• Flexible scheduling due to customer demand, construction activity, outages, and weather
Requirements
• Valid driver’s license
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Comfortable working in varied indoor and outdoor environments
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and make sound field decisions
Education & Experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Prior FTTH experience strongly preferred
• Lead or senior technician experience preferred
Preferred Certifications
• FOA CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) or equivalent
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
