Orientation Leader

Berklee College of Music - Boston Part time

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

Orientation Leaders (OLs) are responsible for assisting new students and families in their social acclimation and onboarding to Berklee. OLs are also tasked with facilitating opportunities for new students to connect with the student leader and each other. The duties of an OL vary from day to day and allow the student leader to develop a variety of new skills, from communication and collaboration to multi-tasking and problem-solving. The Berklee community depends on this position’s ability to serve as a positive, creative contributor to a new student’s transition to life at Berklee.

Primary Duties:

  • Facilitate daily meetings with student cohorts during orientation week

  • Be available and give genuine assistance to incoming students beyond orientation week

    • Examples include: sending check-in emails, addressing any questions or concerns

  • Provide guidance and support to first-year students on personal and social matters within the scope of Campus Life training, and refer them to appropriate academic or campus department services as needed.

  • Foster a sense of inclusivity and encourage respectful attitudes and behaviors among the students in their groups.

  • Have a working knowledge of Berklee’s facilities, services, and resources

  • Assist in the hosting and facilitation of programs and events sponsored by the Center for Campus Life

  • Other duties as assigned

  • In compliance with Berklee’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (S.A.P.) criteria.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

Compensation 

All Orientation Leaders will be compensated for their work through a “performance payment.” This will take place in the form of two separate payments, (one for training, one for orientation) each for $494.40. The total compensation for this role is $988.80, which aligns with the hourly rate of $16.48 /hour for two 30-hour weeks.

Info Session Requirement

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must attend one of the scheduled Student Leader Information Sessions. These sessions are designed to help you understand the expectations of the role, the time commitment, and how our student leaders contribute to building meaningful campus community.

Attendance at an info session is required in order to move forward in the selection process.

Time Commitment Note

Summer Training Commitment: Student leaders may be asked to complete a small amount of paid training time over the summer (typically up to 3–5 hours) to prepare for their role.
 

  • For students residing in the U.S.: This training may include a combination of synchronous and asynchronous components.
     

  • For students residing outside of the U.S.: Students may have the option to complete comparable paid training at a later time.

Fall Training Commitment: Student Leaders will work two weeks between Friday, August 14, 2026 (tentative) for training through orientation which concludes on Saturday, August 29, 2026. 

*During training and orientation: Student Leaders will work approximately up to 30 hours each week. Student Leaders  are expected to be available for the entirety of training and orientation week. Additionally, students are not permitted to work additional on or off-campus jobs during this time.
