Optical Technician

Novanta Precision Manufacturing

Taunton, Somerset

You will assemble precision optical and mechanical components that support advanced industrial and medical technologies. You will work with engineering drawings, follow detailed work instructions and contribute to high‑quality build standards for our laser beam steering products.

What you will do

  • Assemble optical and mechanical components to defined specifications.
  • Follow engineering drawings, schematics and work instructions.
  • Use calibrated tools and equipment correctly and safely.
  • Run standard tests to verify build quality.
  • Keep accurate records in the manufacturing database.
  • Maintain a clean, organised work area.
  • Support colleagues with basic guidance and on‑the‑job training when needed.

What you bring

  • GCSE-level education or equivalent.
  • Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Experience working from engineering drawings.
  • Comfortable with data entry and record keeping.
  • Problem solving at a routine level.
  • Ideally 1–2 years’ experience in a similar assembly, optics, electronics or mechanical environment.
  • Apprenticeship or modern equivalent is beneficial.
