Job Responsibilities:

The Manager of Optical Engineering is responsible for leading the global Optical R&D Engineering department of HARMAN Lighting R&D, which is tasked with the development of new Optical technologies, platforms, products, product enhancements and product redesign of HARMANS lighting products in close collaboration and synchronization with the Mechanical, Electrical, FW, Systems and Test&Validation teams. Moreover, the role covers responsibility for quality assurance and product qualification during product development from Optical side.

The Manager of Optical Engineering will assume responsibility for a department consisting of engineers and including our Optical prototype laboratories in Denmark and Shenzhen, China. The united Optical teams are located both in Denmark and in Shenzhen, China. The Manager of Optical Engineering is directly responsible for the global team setup, people development and the project task and resource alignment for the global teams.

The most important task will be to act as a global leader towards the global team – bringing together the global teams as one team, providing clear guidance and development and serving as a role model to the employees. Furthermore the responsibility will be to improve the global Lighting working processes to ensure that the global team balances all parts of the spectrum from creating the most innovative technologies in our technology projects to ensuring we deliver our product development projects on time as promised.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Management of the global Optical development teams including resource management and employee development
  • Timely execution of all Optical solutions in all roadmap projects, both technology, platform and NPI
  • Alignment and standardization of tools and processes needed for smooth integration of all technologies and platforms into NPI projects – for the global team and in alignment with other functional areas; Mechanical, Electrical and Firmware Department and Systems Engineering and T&V Department
  • Budget responsibility for the Optical Engineering team and follow up
  • Selection of correct design concepts used for new products or improvement for existing concepts
  • Development of product variants, based on known products
  • Ensuring that product quality issues reported from the marked or production sites are solved together with the Engineering Sustaining organization

Desired Profile

We are looking for a candidate with the following profile:

  • High level of drive and motivation to lead and develop a global R&D organization
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering and preferably within Optics
  • Proven ability in leading highly skilled employees through changes – and in a global context
  • Ability to communicate and align processes and interfaces across a global organization
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to develop repeatable processes or improve existing processes linking ideas, technology projects and platform projects to product development projects.
