The Operations Technician supports the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the Middleton Biogas and Product R&D Facility. This role is responsible for safely operating anaerobic digesters and associated systems that convert organic waste into renewable energy used to power R&D activities. The technician will assist with equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, data logging, repairs, and site cleanliness while ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and eager to work in a hands-on, team-oriented environment supporting sustainable energy and innovation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High-School diploma
Experience: 1-3 years of experience in operations, ideally in anaerobic digestion, power generation and distribution, or similar environments.
Travel: 0-5%
Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Schedule may vary and can include, but is not limited to nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work a flexible schedule is necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates and monitors the anaerobic digester system, biogas handling, power generation, and related equipment under the direction of the Operations Lead.
Performs routine inspections, readings, and operational checks to ensure systems are functioning properly and efficiently.
Assists in preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, blowers, mixers, piping, valves, instrumentation, and other mechanical and electrical systems.
Maintains accurate operational logs, maintenance records, and compliance documentation.
Reports abnormalities or safety concerns immediately to the Operations Lead or FTI Safety department as needed.
Supports sampling, testing, and troubleshooting activities related to digester performance and gas quality.
Assists in maintaining site cleanliness, grounds, and housekeeping to support a safe working environment.
Participates in equipment startup, shutdown, and emergency response procedures.
Supports R&D testing and prototype system operations when required.
Follows all environmental, safety, and regulatory protocols, including lockout/tagout and confined space procedures.
Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying operational or maintenance efficiencies.
Participates in on-call emergency operations and maintenance as needed to ensure the facility is able to safely and efficiently run 24/7.
Performance other related duties as required and assigned.
