Job Description:

The Office of Residential Life manages the Key Services Center, which is a 24/7 operation, in support of the residential student experience. The Operations Assistant is the sole staff member on duty during overnight and weekend shift hours, handling Key Room operations and student lockouts. Additional duties include maintaining security of keys, tracking lock changes and lockouts for billing, and communication of pertinent information concerning department policies and procedures related to student lockouts and other related key processes.  There are 49 residential facilities with over 5,400 beds that are managed by Residential Life. This position supports the safety and security of these spaces by managing the keys associated with these spaces. 

The schedule is 3rd shift (12am-8am) with alternating weekends off as outlined below:

  • Week 1 - 12am-8am Sunday - Tuesday (Off Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday)

  • Week 2 - 12 am-8am Saturday - Tuesday (Off Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)

 

Job Qualifications 

Education and Experience: 

  • High school or GED required. 

  • 1- 3 years’ experience working in an office environment and/or customer service preferred.

Job Competencies:

  • Demonstrated skills in customer service, particularly with ability to defuse tense situations. 

  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, parents, student organizations, and staff. 

  • Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills, plus attention to detail.

  • Ability to multi-task required.

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency and continued interest in enhancing skills in: Microsoft Office, Excel, Word.

  • Ability to react quickly and shift priorities when needed. 

  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community. 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 

  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse perspectives that students and families bring to Brown, and that colleagues bring to their work – including those of academic, socioeconomic, culture, race and ethnicity, nationality, ability, gender, sexual identity, and intersectional identities. 

  • Demonstrated excellent attention to detail and accuracy. 

  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods. 

  • Must be able to climb stairs throughout the duration of shift. 

  • Must be able to work under adverse temperatures and/or weather conditions. 

  • Valid Driver’s License required.
