MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Summary:
- Provides leadership to the oncology medical team aligned to business goals and customer needs;
- Leads the development of the oncology medical strategy and ensures that all medical activities are aligned to the strategy, with a focus on prioritization to deliver the greatest impact;
- Represents the oncology medical voice to external bodies;
- Establishes Pfizer as a key research partner in oncology through clinical trials, real world studies and research collaborations.
Development, Implementation and Communication of the Oncology Medical Affairs Strategy:
- Establishes vision, direction and role purpose for the team;
- Leads development of the oncology medical plan aligned to local, regional and global strategies;
- Leads comprehensive medical pipeline strategy, in collaboration with R&D/GSSO on clinical trials, Regulatory and Market Access to support optimal licensing and reimbursement for prioritised assets;
- Champions excellence in cross-functional working with commercial teams to support brand and portfolio strategy;
- Ensures comprehensive external engagement plans across the medical team designed to generate actionable insights and deliver medical impact for patients and the healthcare system;
- Ensures delivery of high quality scientific communications through medical to medical interactions, omnichannel content and publications;
- Oversees medical non-interventional studies and other RWD studies, registries and research collaborations related to oncology portfolio, and medical grants, donations and ISRs.
Build Organisational Capability and Management of People:
- Leads, motivates and enhances the performance of the oncology medical affairs team through coaching and by direct example;
- Supports talent management within the oncology medical affairs team, ensuring that colleagues are aware of opportunities aligned to their development plans;
- Ensures processes and procedures within oncology medical are continuously reviewed and updated to meet current and future business needs;
- Drives and applies innovative approaches and use cases for digital technology and AI to enhance medical work;
- Plans resource allocation to ensure appropriate resources to fulfil medical objectives and business needs.
One Pfizer Responsibilities:
- Represents the immediate point of reference to the Country President and Country Medical Director for oncology medical topics or issues;
- Partners with the responsible functions with respect to responses to Regulatory, Safety, and/or Clinical oncology issues with potential impact on public health, or a potential impact on the organization's reputation;
- Represents Pfizer Oncology externally with Government, NHS leaders, medical societies, research bodies, patient organisations, media and the industry association;
- Provides clinical and scientific input into assessment and due diligence of business development initiatives as required.
Medical Governance:
- Ensures consistent application of local regulations and standards, the ABPI Code and Pfizer SOPs in relation to medical activities and materials;
- Supports management of quality reviews and quality events related to the oncology BU;
- Supports country audits and inspections as required;
- Ensures in-country implementation of oncology product labelling updates and risk minimization measures in collaboration with commercial leads;
- Provides medical support and guidance to oncology BU to ensure that the commercial objectives of each medicine are realised through adherence to the highest ethical and regulatory standards;
- Ensures medical support for issues related to supply and distribution, product quality, benefit-risk, market actions and product withdrawals related to portfolio;
- Provides clinical and scientific input into regulatory submissions, clinical overviews, licence variations and core data sheet updates as required.
Memberships:
- Member of the country medical leadership team
- Member of the oncology BU leadership team
Qualifications:
- Medical doctor, pharmacist or scientist
- Fluency in business English
Knowledge and Experience:
- Significant pharmaceutical industry experience in medical affairs strongly recommended;
- Executive leadership and line management experience strongly recommended;
- Deep understanding of the UK health and research environment including its structure, relevant policy frameworks, key members and scientific societies is strongly recommended;
- Relevant experience in oncology is desirable, including clinical and/or research experience;
- Strong understanding of pharmacovigilance, medicines regulation and the drug development process and how these aspects impact the oncology product portfolio;
- Fully conversant with the ABPI Code of Practice, relevant regulations and Pfizer policies and procedures.
