Job Summary

TYLin is seeking a detail-oriented Office Engineer to support the delivery of civil construction projects in Long Island, NY. This on-site role is central to project controls, documentation, and cost management, working closely with the Resident Engineer, field inspectors, and contractors to ensure accurate tracking of quantities, pay items, and contract compliance.
The Office Engineer plays a key role in maintaining the administrative and technical backbone of the project, supporting heavy civil construction activities including concrete work, asphalt milling, and paving operations.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

Project Controls & Cost Management

  • Track daily construction quantities and pay items, coordinating closely with field inspectors and the Resident Engineer.

  • Maintain quantity calculations, measurement records, and supporting documentation.

  • Prepare and review monthly progress payment estimates for accuracy and completeness prior to submission.

  • Assist with change orders, force account work, and cost impacts associated with field changes.

Contract Administration & Documentation

  • Log, track, and distribute Requests for Information (RFIs) and ensure timely responses.

  • Receive, log, and track contractor submittals, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and review schedules.

  • Maintain organized project files, correspondence logs, and document control systems.

  • Assist with tracking schedules, work plans, and contract milestones.

Coordination & Communication

  • Work closely with the Resident Engineer and Civil Field Inspectors to reconcile daily reports and quantities.

  • Coordinate with contractors to resolve documentation discrepancies and support timely payment processing.

  • Support project meetings by preparing agendas, meeting minutes, and action item logs as needed.

Reporting & Recordkeeping

  • Compile daily, weekly, and monthly project reports.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date as-built records in coordination with field staff.

  • Support project closeout activities, including final quantities, documentation, and records turnover.

What You’ll Bring

  • 3–7 years of experience in an Office Engineer, Field Engineer, or project controls role on civil or heavy construction projects.

  • Strong understanding of construction pay items, quantity tracking, and cost documentation.

  • Experience supporting concrete, asphalt paving, or roadway construction projects.

  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, and progress payment processes.

  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with field and management teams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with standard construction documentation and project management systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.

Additional Information
