Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Nursing Professional Development Generalist for day shift in our Surgical Services area in Suffolk, VA! Ideal candidates will have previous Perioperative experience in circulating.

About the Surgical Services Department:

The Main OR: Sentara Obici Hospital is a recognized Primary Stroke Center and Magnet hospital, with an average of 5,000 cases per year. The 40-person team supports seven operating rooms, and performs a diverse range of procedures including general, ortho, podiatry, vascular, GYN, spine, and plastics, utilizing advanced systems like DaVinci robotic technology. The team, comprising RNs, surgical assistants, surgical technologists and OR techs, works across Obici and Bell Harbor hospitals, with opportunities to assist in Obstetrics as needed. The hospital values both new graduates and experienced professionals, offering amenities like free parking, shuttle service, and a supportive, collaborative environment.

The Ambulatory Surgery Center at BelleHarbour offers high-quality care within a collaborative environment that includes registered nurses, surgical techs, sterile services, and support staff, all overseen by a highly trained and experienced management team. The center features dedicated admit recovery and 6 bed post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) services. The center is expanding services and currently has one dedicated OR with expectations of a second OR in the coming months. The facility provides a range of surgical services, including orthopedic procedures, as well as gynecology, plastics, ENT, urology, General, and Podiatry. The center sees between 3 and 8 procedures per day.

Endoscopy: Our newly remodeled Endoscopy Department features three state-of-the-art procedure rooms and is staffed by a dedicated team of six RNs and endoscopy technicians who work closely with a primary GI outpatient provider, with additional staff available for call coverage and surgical needs. The team performs an average of 12 to 15 procedures daily. Extensive training, lasting 4 to 6 weeks, ensures the endoscopy technician will be proficient in equipment handling, assisting during procedures, and supporting hands-on surgeries. Our experienced gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons, deliver comprehensive care through both outpatient and inpatient services, ensuring the highest quality patient care.

A Nurse Professional Development Generalist is responsible for supporting the ongoing education and professional development of nursing staff. This role involves assessing the educational needs of nursing teams, designing and implementing training programs, and ensuring that nurses maintain competencies aligned with the latest clinical standards and regulations. The Nurse Professional Development Generalist collaborates with other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes, promotes evidence-based practice, and enhances the overall quality of care.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science- Nursing (Required)

  • MSN Preferred

Certification/Licensure

  • BLS Required

  • CNOR-(Preferred)

  • Valid Registered Nursing License (Required)

Experience

  • 2 years of nursing experience (Required)

  • Operating room experience, circulator or scrub (required)

  • Previous education experience (preferred)

  • Manages complex cases in fast-paced environments

  • Communication with patients and providers
