Job Summary

Under general supervision, responsible for analysis, design, testing, validation and implementation of clinical applications used by clinicians. Assists in researching/observing integration with information technology to improve workflow. Assists in analyzing the need for process changes related to applications in use or being implemented. Duties include analyzing complex clinical operations and structure processes to facilitate decision making regarding clinical systems; utilizing the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer applications; and ensuring information systems are consistent with professional standards of practice.
Competent to work on most phases of applications systems analysis and support activities, but requires instruction and guidance in other phases. The candidate for this position interacts with clinicians and IT staff. The candidate also understands the use of clinical computer applications, which assist in the management and processing of clinical information and delivery of health care services.

Essential Functions:

  • Analysis and Problem Solving- Participate in process re-engineering initiatives and provide informatics support. Design, develop, and test clinical applications enhancements and upgrade. Participate/oversee software upgrades, selection, installation and training. Provide support to end users; act as liaison between users and vendor. (40%)
  • Create/maintain Liaison relationships with Nursing and eHS - Maintain liaison relationships with all clinical areas to determine training requirements and identify system enhancements; recommend, design and develop procedures related to the clinical information systems; ensures regulatory requirements are adhered to in the development and implementation of the clinical information systems (25%)
  • Application Optimization - Audit and/or provide feedback on clinical documentation accuracy and completeness. Implement and maintain proper use of clinical applications. Develop and promote initiatives to improve, audit and maintain clinical applications (15%)
  • Supports all DH initiatives to improve patient care and experience, maintain regulatory compliance and adheres to organization policy and procedure (10%)
  • Attends house-wide meetings and serves on committees as a representative of both the informatics team and clinical nursing (10%)


Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing required.


Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years nursing experience in clinical domain required.
  • 1 year informatics experience preferred.


Licenses:

  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of redesigning clinical processes to improve efficiency and patient care, preferably in conjunction with the implementation of a clinical information system.
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships and to interact positively and productively with teams across organizational lines. Must be able to function in a dynamic environment subject to impromptu changes in schedules and priorities.
  • Functions as a change agent- is not threatened or intimidated by change and uncertainty.
  • Displays strong initiative- can establish personal goals and take responsibility for meeting them within defined timelines.
  • Strong communication skills.
