To provide cancer patients with the continuum of nursing care that is required in Medical Oncology. The primary purpose is to provide chemotherapy infusion and related treatment.

QUALIFICATIONS

License /Certification

Required:

CA RN license

BLS

Preferred: National certification as Oncology Certified Nurse

Education
Preferred: BSN, MSN, or currently enrolled in RN-BSN program

Experience

Required: One year RN experience or LVN IV experience


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential

Mixes chemotherapy drugs as prescribed by physician after passing competency test.

Provides chemotherapy administration in a manner that is consistent with Oncology Nursing Society standards.

Provides appropriate functions prior to administration of chemotherapy including consent, insurance approval, and verification of dosage.

Accurately provides patient and family education on chemotherapy, side effects, symptom management, and community resources i.e.: American Cancer Society, support groups.

Provides appropriate telephone triage for patients and families. Answers telephone in a courteous, professional manner.

Accurately inputs patient charges and credits into billing systems as instructed.

Inspects and documents medication inventory according to procedures.

Maintains competency in the use and care of all venous access devices, central lines.

Oversees and directs the work of all staff involved with blood sampling, performing CBC test in addition to performing quality controls for the SYSMEX-KX21.

Participates in quality improvement activities as assigned.

Documents the orientation and training related to blood sampling and related testing for all staff.

Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.



Additional

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs. Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Range

$53.41 -$80.12
