The Consultant for Nursing Care Quality supports the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) responsible for driving, supporting and modeling a culture focused on employee engagement, quality, patient safety, fiscal responsibility, and the overall patient experience.
The CNCQ demonstrates and leads by example the behaviors to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Nursing Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and their associated specialty Scope and Standards of Practice.
The CNCQ provides consultation on nursing policies, procedures, education, auditing, practice and communication related to nursing care quality. Further the CNCQ reviews policies, procedures, and education making recommendations for alignment with current regulations, best practices and agency requirements. This includes alignment with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing and The Joint Commission. Recommendations for how to create spreadsheets, audit forms, statistical analysis, and data displays are required. Further the CNCQ will attend meetings to explain and demonstrate recommendations.

Work will be performed in both office and clinical services settings. Attendance at meetings in and out of the hospital, availability for early and late meetings, and flexibility to meet frequent deadlines is necessary.

 

Compensation Pay Range:

$70.00 - $125.00

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership:

The CNCQ provides leadership and recommendations for nursing care quality across all divisions as requested by the CNO. Models and fosters an environment of professionalism and compassionate care. Acts as a role model through the demonstration of personal professional development, continuous learning and competency improvement.

Collaboration:

Actively collaborates with CNO, ACNO, nurse managers, risk management, infection control, regulatory readiness and quality teams to develop clinical strategies, improve management of quality indicators and updated policies, procedures, education, auditing and practices to align with best practices and requirements. Consults to assure that the hospital has an effective nursing care quality program. 

Management:

The CNCQ is responsible to report monthly to CNO their activities.  Further the CNCQ will provide a written document of these activities along with progress for items that will require more than a month to complete.  The CNCQ will develop a dashboard for this reporting both to the CNO and other interested constituents.

Efficiencies:

Partners with medical staff and clinical services operations to become more efficient and effective in achieving total cost of care objectives, in alignment with clinical quality and access objectives.  Identifies and implements best practices related to: Clinical Care Management, Utilization Management, Chronic Disease Management, Health Promotion, Hospital Throughput, Patient Placement, LOS Management, and other related areas as indicated.

Human Resources Management
•    Oversight
o    Develops and implements change management programs including nursing care quality projects in collaboration with nursing and hospital leadership.
o    In times of transition, supports areas that require interim leadership support.

o    Makes recommendations about the Development, implementation, overseeing, and approval of departmental policies, procedures and systems and revises as necessary to maximize efficiency.
o    Makes recommendations to the responsible persons for ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies and making managers aware of policy and procedure changes.
 

Other
•    Develop letters, presentations, announcements, and other communications.  All documents must be of the highest caliber of refinement and professionalism.
•    Serve on committees as needed or assigned by the CNO.
•    Lead or participate in special projects and perform other related tasks as requested or required.
 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education - Preferred

DNP, DNS or PhD in Nursing required

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum five years of experience required as a clinical nurse with demonstrated evidence of leadership progression; most recent 3 of the last 5 years of leadership must have been in a direct leadership role in a hospital setting or direct patient care environment required or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

Required Licenses

•    Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse License without restrictions required
•    Current certification preferred or to be attained within two year period from date of hire
•    Professional nursing certification must be maintained while employed in this position
