This is the first level of the Nuclear Materials Specialist classification hierarchy. This is an entry level position used for new employees with little experience. Employees at this level will require very close supervision and training for basic warehouse tasks and functions.
The Nuclear Materials Specialist position is responsible for executing day-to-day activities in support of warehouse operations including, but not limited to, inventory control, issues, receiving, transfers, chemical inventory and, if applicable, equipment and tools. Assuring inventory accuracy is a critical aspect of the position which includes physical inventory and chemical inventory processes. The job activity ensures the safe movement and handling of required parts and maintenance materials into and out of the power generation facilities. The successful Nuclear Materials Specialist candidate ensures work priorities are established and adhered to for those activities associated with material handling processes and systems.
The Nuclear Materials Specialist will have excellent communication skills and is expected to work effectively with plant management and staff to prioritize, schedule and implement activities related with day-to-day operations and maintenance activities within the Power Generation facility.
The Nuclear Materials Specialist will be a self-starter and customer-driven to support the supply chain organization and the generation plant operations customers.
The Nuclear Materials Specialist will be responsible for maintaining excellent communications and relationships with supply chain site procurement and site operations to ensure the efficient flow of commodities in and out of plant inventories.
There is no automatic progression between hierarchies.
Responsibilities
Receipt, storage and issue activities including locating materials, loading and unloading trucks, material putaway and/or picking, preparing materials for shipment
Warehouse maintenance and overall housekeeping and material condition activities.
Training as outlined in Nuclear Warehousing Position Specific Guides (PSG's), Radiation Protection Training for nuclear badged employees (annual) and various supply chain systems related processes.
Basic/Required Qualifications
Note: This posting is for one position. Dependent on relevant experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.
Nuclear Materials Specialist I
High School/GED Degree
Maintain valid driver's license, fork truck certification and all assigned training (safety, environmental, ethics, etc.)
Nuclear Materials Specialist II
High School/GED Degree
One year of related work experience
Maintain valid driver's license, fork truck certification and all assigned training (safety, environmental, ethics, etc.)
Desired Qualifications
Associate's Degree
Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including windows-based applications, i.e., Word, Excel, etc.
Prior experience in NAS (Nuclear Asset Suite)
Demonstrated working knowledge of inventory systems and/or work management systems
3+ years warehouse experience
Increased work activities not requiring direct supervision
Understands material identification via supply chain system catalog IDs and can productively pick/issue, receiving and/or count inventory materials
Prior forklift certification and experience
Hazardous Material Shipping/Receiving experience
Experience shipping and receiving through Fed-Ex/UPS
Prior experience in cutting cables, preparing shipments of cables and operating a respooling machine
Self-motivated and able to work productively in a team collaborative environment with some direct supervision
Experience in interacting with a diverse range of contacts, including managers, non-managers, peers, and external customers. Proven ability to anticipate and respond effectively to customer request, which may include inquiries received in person, via phone and/or in writing
Good communication skills including ability to effectively interact with management, teammates, and customers
Ability to multi-task and adapt to constantly changing conditions, such as time pressures. Must be able to prioritize both long-term and short-term task with varying levels of urgency from multiple team members, balanced along with normal duties
Demonstrated excellent organizational, time management
CDL driver’s license (NC)
Good oral communication skills
Ability to learn how to execute computer supply chain systems transactions
Working Conditions
Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.
Warehouse and outside environments including all weather conditions and possibly extreme temperatures
Frequent walking, bending, kneeling, pulling, climbing ladders
Participate on rotating week or weekend on-call schedule and/or occasional overtime and emergency call-out for unscheduled outages
Weekend coverage if required
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Must be able to arrive at required location promptly once called for emergency call-out when scheduled for on-call duty during nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
Willing to travel as a shared resource within any business unit in support of any business need deemed necessary by Supply Chain Leadership.

Will need to become DOT shipper qualified within 1 year
Maintain valid driver's license, fork truck certification and all assigned training (safety, environmental, ethics, etc.
Must be able to obtain unescorted nuclear access and successfully complete job specific training as outlined in Nuclear Supply Chain Directives, Forklift, safety and other facility specific training
