We are seeking a seasoned Principal Engineer with exceptional technical depth and strategic leadership skills. In this role, you’ll define, plan, and lead the execution of highly complex engineering projects that directly impact business success. You’ll apply your expertise to manage risks, drive project strategies, and ensure alignment with organizational goals. As a trusted technical leader, you’ll mentor engineering teams, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and deliver innovative solutions that advance our most critical initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, integrated schedules, and high value budgets for highly complex, multi-site projects; proactively recommend strategic adjustments to ensure alignment with organizational objectives, timelines, and financial targets.
  • Document, analyze, and communicate delays, scope changes, and critical incidents affecting projects, ensuring timely escalation and mitigation strategies across cross-functional and executive stakeholders.
  • Define project budget and scope for high-impact initiatives, identifying and implementing all opportunities for cost optimization and strategic resource allocation to maximize profitability and organizational value.
  • Perform advanced critical path analyses, scenario planning, and contingency planning; implement innovative workarounds to ensure delivery of projects with high technical, operational, and strategic complexity.
  • Lead cross-functional meetings, consolidate inputs from multiple business units, and present executive-level plans and progress reports that inform business decisions and strategic priorities.
  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve high-risk project issues, including resource reallocations, contractual adjustments, and cross-business unit conflicts, ensuring timely resolution and minimal organizational impact.
  • Collaborate closely with NPI teams and other functional areas to ensure all technical, quality, and regulatory requirements are met and achieve seamless transitions to production mature product releases.
  • Communicate, escalate, and influence key project status, risks, and decisions across all organizational levels, including senior leadership and external stakeholders, to ensure strategic alignment and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure alignment of organizational priorities and effective communication of project objectives, interdependencies, and resource requirements across operations and functional areas.
  • Build and maintain collaborative, high-performing relationships with RTX Business Unit Teams, driving successful execution of New Products for Puerto Rico Operations (Electronics and Mechanical sites).
  • Champion clear, transparent, and effective communication between Puerto Rico Operations facilities and customers/programs to strengthen relationships and align expectations.
  • Lead the execution of the Project Plan and Quality Plan for complex programs, ensuring delivery meets or exceeds customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and corporate objectives.
  • Drive a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence across all projects and daily engineering activities.
  • Provide strategic mentoring and coaching to lower-level project engineers or professionals, enhancing technical capabilities, project management proficiency, and communication skills to ensure successful delivery of complex programs.
  • Define, strategize, and lead solutions for the implementation of New Products or transfer of existing products from diverse SBUs (e.g., Avionics, Interiors, Mission Systems, Advanced Structures) with high technical and organizational complexity.
  • Lead the alignment and integration of systems, processes, and practices across SBUs and receiving sites, ensuring successful execution of high-risk, multi-disciplinary projects.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English and Spanish (verbal and written).
