We are seeking a Newsroom Products & Innovation Intern (40 hrs/week) to join us this summer! We’re looking for an intern to support our Newsroom Products & Innovation team as we expand practical, high-impact AI use across the newsroom. You’ll help us test, document, and scale early-stage projects using AI and non-AI automation, with a focus on improving day-to-day newsroom operations and workflows. You will also help test and give feedback on AI output. 

This is a hands-on role for someone who’s curious, organized, and excited to translate emerging AI capabilities into real utility for reporters, editors, and operations partners.

Note: This internship is scheduled to run from June 1, 2026 - August 7, 2026. Participants are expected to work full time hours and adhere to our on-site work schedule. Open to current juniors and seniors pursuing a BA, MA students, and recent graduates who completed their degree within the past year. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by March 15th.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with the newsroom to identify areas for efficiency in workflow, process and product improvements. 

  • Help build AI and non-AI automations within our Google AI suite (Gemini, Notebook LM) and a growing list of approved partners. 

  • Test the accuracy and quality of new AI internal functions and reader-facing products in preparation to release to the newsroom and the public. Log issues and suggest improvements.

  • Assist in rolling out pilots, collecting user feedback, and synthesizing insights into actionable recommendations.

  • Experiment with AI and pitch ideas for newsroom innovation.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience with low-code/no-code automation platforms and a desire to learn them quickly.

  • Experience using Google’s AI suite, including Notebook LM and Gemini, especially creating Gems.

  • An understanding of prompt engineering.

  • Familiarity with Python, APIs, or Google Apps Script is a significant plus.

  • The ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical staff members without using jargon.
