The primary focus in the 24-bed Coronary Intensive Care Unit is the adult patient experiencing critical cardiac problems. The majority of our patient population is comprised of patients with:

  • Myocardial infarction

  • Dysrhythmias

  • Coronary artery disease requiring percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) and other interventions

  • Chronic heart failure

  • Valvular dysfunction

  • Aortic aneurysms

  • Endocarditis

Some of the most challenging and complex patients in our unit suffer from cardiogenic shock and cardiomyopathy. In order to effectively treat these problems, J31 offers state-of-the-art intensive care nursing services, including hemodynamic monitoring, intra-aortic balloon pumping, therapeutic intravascular cooling, and left ventricular assist devices, thorough and ongoing physical assessment of patients, pharmacologic intervention, mechanical ventilation and continuous respiratory care, along with continuous renal replacement therapy.

A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation, 7:00am—7:30pm or 7:00pm – 7:30am.  Weekend and holiday rotation is required.

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.  

  • Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.  

  • Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).  

  • Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.  

  • Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.  

  • Document in patients’ medical records.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing  

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within one year of hire 

  • New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
