As at Network - Specialist, you perform the full range of complex and specialised technical work associated with specific work support functions.About the role:
The role of the Network Engineer-Specialist is to utilize theoretical knowledge, skills, product forecasts, sales funnel information and network/service reports to effectively augment and develop the IP networks and products.
To support and manage Telstra projects with minimal service impact. To expand out the IP network platform, coverage and capabilities to drive customer requirements and market demands.
Your Key Responsibilities and Major Tasks
Work with various teams to understand the network, user base, performance constraints and growth requirements.
Produce network augmentation plans in line with forecast customer requirements and IP, Ethernet & Corporate network design rules.
Specialized knowledge of concepts, processes, and policy with regards to capacity planning and network automation.
Design, cost and develop implementation timelines and business cases for network projects.
Develop programmable network functions within an automation environment.
To manage cross-functional teams, consisting of team members from core transmission services, field operations, contractors, shipping agents and vendors to ensure the successful implementation of network projects and BAU tasks within time and cost constraints.
To hand over functioning, well documented network information to the corresponding Network Operations Centers (NOCs).
To support customer requirement by conducting feasibility studies.
Participate in the evaluation of potential proposals to be included in the network automation program.
Assist and provide guidance on IP platform planning, virtualization and implementation.
What we are looking for:
To be successful in this role, you will have the following experience and qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required in Computing, Engineering, Telecommunications, or related discipline with 5+ years direct involvement in various elements of service provider network design, planning and operations.
CCNP, CCIE, JNCIS or JNCIP-SP or equivalent relevant certificate holder is preferred.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of IP and Ethernet networks with sensible mind-set.
Familiar with IP networks, routers, switches and network protocols including ISIS, BGP, MPLS, Traffic Engineering, Segment-routing.
Solid experience with Cisco and Juniper network equipment is a definite advantage
Knowledge in Project Management and Network Management tools (e.g. Cisco NSO, QLIK, Kentik and Sevone etc.).
Knowledge in Python, Ansible, and Scripting to assist with automation is a definite advantage.
Strong problem-solving and analytical judgement skills to tackle conflicts and dilemma.
Possess keen sense of financial awareness in cost control in project planning.
The ability to drive and manage different vendors to conform with Telstra’s requirements in terms of technical compliance and cost effectives.
