EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree; or, an equivalent education and experience Coursework in anatomy & physiology and medical terminology preferred. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: n/a ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Abstracts and interprets pertinent data from medical records with an average level of accuracy and efficiency. 2. Maintains extensive knowledge of study protocol, cardiovascular diseases, medical terminology and pharmaceutical drugs to make informed decisions regarding patient hospitalizations. 3. Reads, understands and abstracts information from cardiac intervention operative reports, cardiac catheterization and other diagnostic reports including ECG's, echocardiograms, chest X-rays and CTs. 4. Participates in Quality Control cross-examinations to include two heart failure and one coronary heart disease additional abstractions each month. 5. Resolves problems related to data queries sent by the coordinating center. 6. Attends training for annual re-certification programs, attends cardiology related conferences for continuing education, attends and represents the WFUHS site at abstractor training and conference calls. 7. Communicates effectively and timely with the coordinating center. 8. Performs other duties as needed.
